"Nowadays it doesn't looks like much, but coding fullscreens, syncscrollers and plasmas was very hard. The assembly code had to be timed and synchronized with the graphics chip: interacting with the chip at the right cycles allowed to trick it to skip a scanline's border, to use more colors than the 16 allowed, and to widen a scanline and as a result offset the rest of the display, i.e. perform &sync&-scrolling. Some of the Anomaly's screens (like the intro) combine all this with 4-track digital music, which is also very technical because the Atari ST doesn't have sampled sound hardware."
